From Striving to Belonging: Embracing Your Identity in Christ

You have spent years showing up. Being the steady one. The capable one. The one who holds everything together. And if you are honest, somewhere beneath all of that faithfulness, a quiet question has been following you: Is this all I am? If this is part of your faith journey, you are not alone and in exactly the right place.

If your sense of worth has quietly become tied to your roles, your responsibilities, and what others need from you, you are not alone. And you are in exactly the right place.

This episode is an invitation to pause, to breathe, and to begin.

In this episode, Dr. Robin Revis Pyke shares her own story, not a polished testimony, but an honest reflection of how God led her from a season of meaningful, purposeful work into something she never fully anticipated. Throughout her years in private school admissions, Dr. Robin loved guiding families, holding space for their hopes, and being someone others could rely on. But over time, she began to sense something stirring beneath the surface. A quiet restlessness. A holy discomfort. A gentle whisper that said: there is more.

This is the story of how that whisper became Reflecting Life, and why your story, right where it is, matters deeply.

What we explore in this episode:

  • How good, meaningful work can quietly become the foundation of your identity without you ever realizing it
  • What a holy restlessness actually feels like, and why it is not dissatisfaction but an invitation
  • The slow, tender way God invites us to loosen our grip on the identity we have built and step into the identity he has given
  • Why the turning point in a faith journey is rarely a single dramatic moment, and what it looks like when God works gradually, one quiet layer at a time
  • How the gifts you have used in your career, your home, or your relationships may be pointing toward a calling that is larger than any one role
  • What it means to move from striving to belonging, and why that shift begins not with effort but with surrender
  • A gentle closing reflection and prayer for

This episode is for the Christian woman who loves God faithfully, serves others generously, and has quietly begun to wonder whether her identity is rooted in what she does or in who God says she is. It is for the woman in a season of transition who senses God at work in her, though she cannot yet name it. It is for the woman who is tired of striving and ready, even if just barely, to trust.

Your faith journey is not behind. Your questions are not a sign of weakness. And you do not need the full picture to take the next step.

“God was inviting me to trust Him with my identity, to release the version of myself I had built, and to step into the version He was shaping.”

[00:00:12] We’ll explore how Christian women just like you navigate the in between seasons using biblical truths and honest conversations. [00:00:20] This podcast is your safe space to pause, reflect, and remember who God says you are. [00:00:27] So come as you are, you are loved, chosen, and created by grace. [00:00:32] And I am so glad you are here. So let’s start this journey together.

Embracing Imperfection: My Story of Faith and Calling

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:00:37 – 00:01:15]:
[00:00:37] Hello. [00:00:38] I’m really excited you’re here because today I’m sharing my story. [00:00:42] Not a polished testimony, but an honest reflection of how God has led me from striving to belonging. [00:00:51] But I do want to pause and let you know that I am a work in progress, so God continues to lead me on this journey. [00:00:59] And I love sharing this journey with women with a heart for God. [00:01:05] So let’s get started. [00:01:08] Before reflecting life ever existed, my calling took shape in a very different setting. [00:01:13] Private school admissions.

Finding Identity in Private School Admissions

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:01:16 – 00:01:22]:
[00:01:16] In those early years, I found myself in a role that blended structure with heart. I loved the relationships that formed around office desks and school hallways. [00:01:28] I loved the academic environment, the rhythm of school life, the energy of the students, the dedication of the faculty. [00:01:37] And I loved guiding families through a process that often felt overwhelming or unfamiliar. [00:01:46] It was meaningful work, and I was genuinely grateful serving in my role. [00:01:52] But as with many seasons of life, that role didn’t just shape my schedule. [00:01:58] It quietly shaped my sense of self. [00:02:01] I became the one who helped others find their place, the one who navigated decisions, the one who carried responsibility with steadiness and care. [00:02:12] And while those things were good, truly good, they also began to weave themselves into my identity in ways I didn’t fully recognize at the time.

Struggling with Self-Worth and Identity

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:02:25 – 00:03:45]:
[00:02:25] I was the helper, the guide, the steady one, the one who made sure everything and everyone found a place where they belong. [00:02:36] But here’s the thing about identity. [00:02:38] When we’re not paying attention, even good things can become defining things. [00:02:44] I didn’t realize how much of my worth I had begun to tie to being capable, dependable, and needed. [00:02:52] I didn’t see how easily I slipped into the role of holding everything together, even when God wasn’t asking me to carry that weight. [00:03:02] Looking back, I can see how God was gently preparing me, shaping my heart through those experiences, teaching me to listen deeply, to walk alongside others, to hold space for their questions and hopes. [00:03:18] But I can also see how he was slowly inviting me to loosen my grip on the identity I had built around my role because he had something more for me, something different, Something that required me to step out of the identity I had created and into the identity he had given me. [00:03:44] It was a quiet invitation.

The Call to Let Go: Surrendering My Identity

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:03:46 – 00:04:22]:
[00:03:46] It wasn’t like all of a sudden an aha moment. [00:03:51] It was slow, it was subtle, and it was quiet. [00:03:58] As the years went by, I began to sense something stirring beneath the surface of my work. [00:04:03] Nothing dramatic, nothing disruptive. [00:04:07] Just a quiet awareness that God was doing something in me, something I couldn’t yet name. [00:04:15] I still loved the families I served. [00:04:17] I still valued the work. [00:04:19] I still showed up with dedication and care.

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:04:23 – 00:05:01]:
[00:04:23] But there was a subtle restlessness growing inside me, a holy restlessness. [00:04:29] It wasn’t dissatisfaction. [00:04:31] It was an invitation. [00:04:34] God was beginning to loosen my grip on the identity I had built around being the helper, the guide, the responsible one. [00:04:41] He was gently showing me that while those roles were meaningful, they were not the fullness of who he created me to be. [00:04:51] There were moments, small, almost unnoticeable at the time, when I felt him whispering, there is more. [00:04:59] There is something deeper. [00:05:00] I want to grow in you.

Sensing God’s Deeper Invitation

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:05:02 – 00:05:29]:
[00:05:02] There is a new way. [00:05:03] I want you to walk with women. [00:05:06] I didn’t actually understand or grasp what he was telling me. [00:05:12] I didn’t know what that meant. [00:05:15] I didn’t know where it would lead. [00:05:17] I only knew that something in my spirit was shifting. [00:05:21] And as God often does, he began revealing this new direction. [00:05:25] Slowly, tenderly, one layer at a time.

Discovering a New Calling in Spiritual Formation

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:05:30 – 00:06:27]:
[00:05:30] He showed me how much I loved listening to women’s stories, how much I valued creating space for honest reflection, how deeply I longed to see women experience freedom, clarity and spiritual growth. [00:05:45] And I began to realize that the gifts I used in admissions, guiding, encouraging, discerning, walking alongside others were not confined to a job description. [00:05:58] They were part of my calling. [00:06:01] A calling that was beginning to expand. [00:06:04] A calling that would eventually lead me into spiritual formation, coaching, mentoring, and. [00:06:10] And ultimately into creating, reflecting life. [00:06:14] But at the time, all I knew was this. [00:06:17] God was inviting me to trust him with my identity, to release the version of myself I had built, and to step into the version he was shaping.

The Gradual Shift Toward Reflecting Life

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:06:27 – 00:07:10]:
[00:06:27] Over time, God began placing something new on my heart. [00:06:32] As I’ve mentioned before, it wasn’t dramatic, it wasn’t sudden. [00:06:36] It happened through small, gradual nudges in my spirit. [00:06:40] A growing desire to walk alongside women spiritually, to listen deeply, to create space for reflection and growth. [00:06:49] At first, I didn’t fully understand it. [00:06:52] But God often works that way, doesn’t He? [00:06:56] He invites us to trust before we see the full picture. [00:06:59] Looking back, the first step was leaving my busy life behind. [00:07:04] I had little to no time for reflection, which caused my focus to shift from God to my achievements.

Finding Fulfillment in Serving and Community

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:07:10 – 00:07:52]:
[00:07:10] Little did I know that he was gently leading me to a place of quiet solitude. [00:07:16] He brought me back to him. [00:07:18] The distractions, overfilled schedules and striving no longer existed. [00:07:25] I no longer felt like something was off in my new role. [00:07:30] I found fulfillment in facilitating the weekly meetups with the girls as they shared their stories and where God had shown up in their lives. [00:07:38] I delighted in early, silent mornings with my Bible candle and a cup of coffee. [00:07:44] I enjoyed the deep conversations with the women and girls as we shared our testimonies. [00:07:50] God was preparing me for more.

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:07:53 – 00:08:30]:
[00:07:53] I just wasn’t sure exactly what more meant. [00:07:58] The turning point was letting go. [00:08:02] There came a moment, quiet, almost hidden, when everything began to shift. [00:08:08] It didn’t happen in dramatic conversation or a sudden revelation. [00:08:12] It wasn’t a crisis or a breaking point. [00:08:15] It was more like a soft, persistent whisper that refused to fade. [00:08:19] I vividly remember sitting at my desk one afternoon, surrounded by files, calendars, and the steady rhythm of a job I knew well. [00:08:29] Families were waiting for answers.

The Turning Point: Letting Go and Deepening Trust in God

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:08:30 – 00:09:17]:
[00:08:30] Decisions needed to be made. [00:08:32] There was always another meeting, another phone call, another recruiting trip to plan, or another detail to manage. [00:08:40] But in the midst of that familiar busyness, I felt something I couldn’t ignore anymore. [00:08:46] A tug, a longing, a holy discomfort. [00:08:52] It was if God was gently placing his hand on the part of my identity I had built around being capable, dependable and needed and asking me to loosen my grip. [00:09:04] I didn’t have language for it then. [00:09:07] I only knew that the work that once felt like my whole calling now felt like only a part of it. [00:09:14] There was a deeper desire growing in me.

God’s Invitation to a New Season

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:09:18 – 00:10:02]:
[00:09:18] A desire to walk with women, not just through decisions, but through the deeper places of the heart. [00:09:25] A desire to create space for reflection, honesty and spiritual growth. [00:09:31] A desire to listen not just to circumstances, but to the movement of God in someone’s life. [00:09:39] And that desire just wouldn’t go away. [00:09:44] The turning point wasn’t a single moment. [00:09:46] It was a season. [00:09:48] A season where God began to peel back layers I didn’t know I had wrapped around myself. [00:09:54] A season where he invited me to see that my identity was not rooted in what I did for others, but in who I was becoming in Him.

Trusting God Through Uncertainty and Transition

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:10:04 – 00:10:41]:
[00:10:04] It was both unsettling and freeing all at the same time. [00:10:10] Unsettling because I didn’t know what was next. [00:10:14] Freeing because for the first time I sensed that God was calling me into something that aligned with the deepest parts of my heart. [00:10:23] I didn’t have a plan. [00:10:25] I didn’t have clarity. [00:10:26] But I had a growing awareness that God was leading me into a new chapter. [00:10:32] One that required trust, surrender, and a willingness to step into the unknown. [00:10:38] Looking back, I can see it so clearly.

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:10:42 – 00:11:25]:
[00:10:42] This was the moment when God began to shift my calling. [00:10:45] This was the moment when the seeds of Reflecting Life were planted. [00:10:49] This was the moment when I realized that the story God was writing in me was about to take a new direction. [00:10:57] Eventually, the invitation became clear. [00:11:00] God was asking me to step into a new season of mentoring and spiritual formation. [00:11:06] And saying yes meant letting go of something familiar, something respected, something defined, something I loved. [00:11:15] Letting go is rarely easy, even when we know God is calling us to something more. [00:11:22] But surrender is often where transformation begins.

Lessons from Seasons of Abiding and Mentoring

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:11:26 – 00:12:31]:
[00:11:26] I will always be thankful for the years I spent in Southern Virginia where I had the opportunity to abide and draw closer to God. [00:11:34] These years allowed me to quietly reflect and faithfully follow where God was leading me to discover a deeper calling. [00:11:45] And as I ever so slowly stepped into a new season of Christian life coaching and mentoring, I began seeing how the themes of identity and acceptance were woven through so many women’s stories. [00:12:00] Women who love God deeply, yet still felt uncertain. [00:12:04] Women who served faithfully, yet quietly wondered if they were enough. [00:12:09] And I realized something. [00:12:11] The questions I had wrestled with were the same questions many women carry. [00:12:18] Who am I? [00:12:20] Am I accepted? [00:12:23] And where do I belong? [00:12:26] The story of Reflecting Life didn’t begin with a microphone or a podcast outline.

The Birth of Reflecting Life: Creating a Safe Space for Women’s Stories

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:12:31 – 00:13:22]:
[00:12:31] It began with a stirring one of those quiet nudges from the Holy Spirit that you just can’t quite ignore. [00:12:40] For years, I found myself sitting across from women and who were carrying so much inside their hearts. [00:12:46] Women who were faithfully walking with God, yet often feeling unseen, unheard, or unsure of how their stories fit into the bigger picture of his grace. [00:12:58] And I realized something. [00:13:00] So many of us are longing for a safe place to be honest about our journey. [00:13:05] Not the polished version, not the I’m fine version, but the real, vulnerable in process version. [00:13:13] That’s where Reflecting Life was born. [00:13:17] I wanted to create a space where women could share their stories openly and honestly.

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:13:23 – 00:14:08]:
[00:13:23] Stories that reveal how God meets us in the midst of ordinary days and unexpected seasons. [00:13:30] Not perfect testimonies, not tidy endings, but real reflections of God’s presence in the messy, beautiful, stretching places of life. [00:13:41] Stories of growth, stories of wrestling, stories of transformation. [00:13:47] Stories that remind us that God is always at work, even when we can’t see the fruit. [00:13:53] Because when we hear each other’s stories, something sacred happens. [00:13:58] We remember that we’re not alone. [00:14:00] We remember that God is faithful. [00:14:03] And we remember that our own story, right where it is, is held in his hands.

Encouragement for Christian Women in Seasons of Change

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:14:10 – 00:14:51]:
[00:14:10] If you’re listening today and you find yourself in a season of transition or uncertainty or quiet questioning, I want to invite you to pause with me for a moment. [00:14:21] Take a deep breath. [00:14:24] A deep, deep breath. [00:14:28] Let your shoulders soften. [00:14:30] Let your heart settle. [00:14:33] And ask yourself, ever so gently, what might God be inviting me to trust right now? [00:14:41] Sometimes the next step is not clear. [00:14:44] Sometimes the path ahead feels foggy or unfamiliar. [00:14:48] And sometimes the next step isn’t action at all.

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:14:52 – 00:16:05]:
[00:14:52] It’s trust. [00:14:54] Trusting that God is present, trusting that he is guiding, trusting that he is shaping something within you that you may not yet understand. [00:15:05] So I ask you, my dear friend, where might God be calling you to trust him in this season? [00:15:12] What is he whispering to your heart and will you trust him not because you see the whole picture, but because you know the one who holds it? [00:15:24] I want to thank you for listening today and thank you for being a part of this beginning. [00:15:29] My prayer is that Reflecting Life becomes a place where women feel seen, encouraged, and reminded of who they are in Christ because our stories matter and God is always at work, often in ways we only see when we pause and reflect. [00:15:47] Let us pray. [00:15:49] Heavenly Father, we come before you with grateful hearts thanking you for this time together and for the ways you continue to meet us right where we are. [00:15:58] Lord, I lift up every woman listening today. [00:16:00] You see her fully, her joys, her questions, her struggles, her desires.

Prayer and Closing

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:16:05 – 00:16:54]:
[00:16:05] Thank you that she is never unseen by you, never forgotten, and never alone. [00:16:11] Father, my prayer is that Reflecting Life would be a sacred space where women feel seen, encouraged, and deeply reminded of who they are in you. [00:16:21] Lord, root them into the truth of their identity in Christ. [00:16:24] Quiet the voices of doubt and replace them with your truth, your peace, and your love. [00:16:31] Lord, teach us to pause, to reflect on your goodness, your faithfulness, your presence in our everyday lives. [00:16:37] Help us to recognize that you are always at work, even in the unseen moments, even in the waiting seasons. [00:16:43] Give us eyes to see you, hearts to trust you, and courage to follow where you lead. [00:16:51] Remind us that our stories matter because you are writing them.

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:16:54 – 00:17:35]:
[00:16:54] Every chapter, every verse, every season, every detail is in your hands and woven together for your purpose and your glory. [00:17:02] We surrender this journey to you, Lord. [00:17:05] Continue to form us, shape us, and draw us closer to your heart. [00:17:11] In Jesus precious name I pray. [00:17:13] Amen. [00:17:16] If this podcast speaks to your heart today, would you share it with another woman who could use a little encouragement, a little hope. [00:17:24] And be sure to subscribe so you can stay connected as we grow together in faith. [00:17:29] And until next time, keep reflecting, keep trusting, and keep walking closely with him.

More about Reflecting Life: A Christian Woman’s Journey of Faith

In today’s hustle-driven culture, even faith has become something to perform. Too many Christian women are living disconnected from their true identity in Christ. Constantly striving, doubting, and searching for belonging in places that can’t truly fulfill them. But you were created to be loved, chosen, and formed by grace, not to earn your worth through endless doing.

Welcome to Reflecting Life, A Christian Woman’s Journey of Faith, where Christian women can exhale, reflect, and remember whose they are.

Hosted by Biblical mentor and spiritual formation coach Dr. Robin Revis Pyke, this podcast features real women sharing real stories of faith, struggle, and hope, along with thoughtful conversations that gently point you back to God’s truth. This is companionship on the journey and not cheerleading from the sidelines.

This show will deliver Scripture-grounded teaching, honest storytelling, and gentle formation practices to help you move from striving to rootedness, from performance to presence with God. If you’re spiritually restless and craving depth over surface inspiration, you’re in the right place.

We’ll answer questions like:

  • How do I find my identity in Christ?
  • What is God’s purpose for my life?
  • How do I hear God’s voice clearly?
  • Am I enough in God’s eyes?
  • What is spiritual formation, and why does it matter?
  • Why do I feel spiritually burned out?
  • How do I know if God loves me?
  • How can I find purpose after 40 as a Christian woman?
  • What does it look like to live from grace instead of performance?
  • How do I navigate between seasons of faith?

This podcast is for Christian women in in-between seasons who love God but are wrestling with transition, calling, identity, or a sense of belonging. Whether you’re feeling spiritually restless, frustrated by performance-driven faith, quietly wrestling with obedience and waiting, or simply craving deeper formation, this space was made for you.

If you’re ready to stop striving for acceptance and start resting in the truth that you’re already formed in Christ, this podcast will give you the encouragement, Biblical truth, and sacred space to do just that.

Come as you are. Pause, listen, and reflect honestly on where God is meeting you in this season.

But Jesus gives us a different invitation: 𝗔𝗯𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗲.

Spiritual maturity is not something we manufacture through greater effort. It is formed as we remain rooted in Christ through Scripture, prayer, surrender, and everyday obedience.

The fruit comes from the connection.

So before asking, “What do I need to do better?” ask: “Am I staying close to Jesus?”

Today, set aside 10 quiet minutes with Christ. No striving. No agenda. Simply read John 15:1–5, sit with His Words, and ask, “Lord, what are You forming in me?”
