Acceptance in Christ: You Are Already Chosen
Acceptance in Christ: You Are Already Chosen

Acceptance in Christ: You Are Already Chosen

There is a longing most of us carry quietly. Not loud enough to name out loud, but present enough to shape the way we move through our days. The longing to be chosen. To belong. To know who we are, not just what we do, is enough. If that resonates somewhere deep, you are in the right place.

This episode is for the woman who is ready to stop earning and start resting in who God already says she is.

In this conversation, we explore what it means to receive acceptance in Christ rather than reach for it. Drawing from years spent in private school admissions, where acceptance was literal, the stakes felt high, and the emotional weight families carried was impossible to miss, we sit with the truth that the longing to be chosen is one of the most human things about us. And we discover together why only one kind of acceptance can ever truly satisfy it. God’s acceptance is unconditional, not fragile, not based on performance, and not something that can be given and taken away. If you are a Christian woman who has quietly brought the striving of the world into your relationship with God, this conversation was made for you. Your story matters here, and this is a safe place to reflect.

Here’s what I cover:

  • How the pattern of conditional acceptance forms early, in classrooms, families, in the quiet messages we absorb about what makes a person valuable, and how that pattern follows us into our faith, without us realizing it
  • Why human acceptance, as meaningful as it can be, will always fall short of the soul’s deepest longing, and what makes God’s unconditional acceptance entirely and beautifully different
  • What Romans 15:7 reveals about the order of things is that Christ’s acceptance came first, and transformation followed, never the other way around
  • How a personal season of surrender, releasing a beloved career and the identity wrapped up in it, became the doorway to a deeper and more rooted sense of purpose and calling in God
  • The distinction between spiritual performance and spiritual formation for women, and why one leads to exhaustion while the other leads to the freedom God designed for you
  • A guided moment of stillness and prayer to help you name the places where you are still striving to be accepted, and offer them, gently, and with open hands, to God

This episode is for the Christian woman who gives generously of herself and wonders, in the quieter moments, whether it is ever quite enough. It is for the woman who loves God sincerely, serves faithfully, and holds a great deal together, and who is ready to step into the truth that her worth was never hers to earn in the first place. If resting in God’s acceptance and finding your identity in Christ feels more like a longing than a reality right now, this is a warm and grace-filled place to begin. Your story is not finished, and God is not done with you yet.

“You were chosen before you proved anything. You are accepted before you earn it. That truth changes everything”

– Dr. Robin

Mentioned Scriptures
Romans 15:7

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:00:01 – 00:00:33]:
[00:00:01] Welcome. I’m Dr. Robin Revis Pyke and this is reflecting a Christian woman’s journey of faith. [00:00:07] Here you will learn what it truly means to live from your identity in Christ. [00:00:12] We’ll explore how Christian women just like you navigate the in between seasons using biblical truths and honest conversations. [00:00:20] This podcast is your safe space to pause, reflect and remember who God says you are. [00:00:27] So come as you are, you are loved, chosen and created by grace. [00:00:32] And I am so glad you are here.

Exploring the Meaning of Acceptance

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:00:34 – 00:01:07]:
[00:00:34] So let’s start this journey together. [00:00:37] Welcome back. [00:00:39] I’m so glad you’re here joining me on this journey. [00:00:42] Today we’re talking about acceptance. [00:00:44] And if we’re honest, acceptance is something we all long for. [00:00:49] To be chosen, to be, welcome, to know we belong, accept. [00:00:54] Acceptance also speaks to our deep longing to be included, affirmed and enough. [00:01:00] In today’s episode, acceptance is explored as a gift, not something to be earned.

Resting in God’s Unconditional Acceptance

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:01:07 – 00:02:19]:
[00:01:07] Rather than striving for approval from others or even from God, listeners are invited to rest in the truth that they are already fully accepted through Christ. [00:01:20] This topic addresses the quiet exhaustion many Christian women carry from people pleasing, over functioning and spiritual performance. [00:01:30] Acceptance opens the door to freedom, honesty and grace filled transformation. [00:01:39] From a young age, we learn that acceptance often feels conditional. [00:01:44] Do well in school, be kind, be responsible, be remarkable. [00:01:50] And if we do these things well enough, we believe we’ll be seen, valued and accepted. [00:01:58] But unfortunately, that pattern can remain with us and follow us into adulthood, into our work, into our relationships, even into our faith. [00:02:14] During my years working in admissions, acceptance was quite literal.

The Human Struggle for Acceptance

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:02:20 – 00:03:20]:
[00:02:20] Students were either accepted or they weren’t. [00:02:23] And although the process had structure and fairness, I could see the emotional weight it carried. [00:02:31] What looked like a simple decision on paper was in reality a deeply human moment. [00:02:40] From the student and parent interviews to the admission testing recommendations and academic records, the process could be a somewhat daunting experience. [00:02:53] Families waiting, students hoping, parents praying. [00:02:59] I watched it unfold year after year. [00:03:03] The nervous smiles, the whispered conversations in the hallways, the way a mother might squeeze her child’s hand just a little tighter. [00:03:13] And in all of it, something about the human heart became unmistakably clear.

The Deep Longing to Be Chosen

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:03:21 – 00:04:05]:
[00:03:21] Being chosen matters to us. [00:03:25] It touches a tender place inside, the place where we long to be seen, valued and welcomed. [00:03:34] The place where we hope someone will look at us and say, you belong here. [00:03:40] But here’s the truth God slowly began teaching me through those years. [00:03:45] Human acceptance, as meaningful as it can be, will never fully satisfy the longing of the soul. [00:03:54] Because human acceptance is fragile. [00:03:58] It shifts, it changes. [00:04:02] It can be given and taken away.

The Fragility of Human Acceptance vs. God’s Steadfast Love

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:04:07 – 00:04:45]:
[00:04:07] Human acceptance depends on performance, timing, opportunity, and sometimes even the opinions of people who barely know us. [00:04:19] But the acceptance God offers is entirely different. [00:04:23] It is not earned. [00:04:25] It is not conditional. [00:04:27] It is not based on our resume, our record, or our ability to impress. [00:04:35] God’s acceptance is rooted in his character, not our qualifications. [00:04:42] It is steady. [00:04:44] It is secure.

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:04:46 – 00:05:38]:
[00:04:46] It is already ours in Christ. [00:04:50] And when that truth begins to settle into the deepest parts of us, something beautiful happens. [00:04:58] We stop striving to be chosen by people because we realize we’ve already been chosen by God. [00:05:07] I’ve experienced personal seasons of surrender through the years. [00:05:12] There was a season when God called me to release a role in that had given me identity and affirmation. [00:05:20] A long, long season of comfort, success, and achievement. [00:05:27] I’ll share some context with you on how I got to this moment. [00:05:32] I was happily serving at a private school where my family and I had a long legacy.

A Personal Story of Letting Go

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:05:38 – 00:06:23]:
[00:05:38] I was thriving. [00:05:39] I was comfortable. [00:05:41] Then a friend who also worked in private school administration forwarded me a posting for a position at an all girls private school in southern Virginia. [00:05:53] My friend exclaimed, this is so you. [00:05:56] I looked, and at first glance, I’ll admit I was very enamored with the school. [00:06:03] But I wasn’t looking to take a position 650 miles away from my home, from my family. [00:06:12] However, curiosity got the best of me, so I made a few inquiries. [00:06:17] The school’s mission and my passion for female mentoring aligned well.

Called to Something New

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:06:24 – 00:06:57]:
[00:06:24] It aligned very well. [00:06:27] Then the call came. [00:06:28] The school contacted me and asked me to visit. [00:06:33] It just wasn’t possible. [00:06:35] I was in the middle of enrollment season, a busy and hectic time of year for admissions. [00:06:41] So believe it or not, the school came to me. [00:06:45] I met with the head of school and his wife during their spring break right here in central Florida, a far cry from southern Virginia. [00:06:55] I found them to be delightful.

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:06:57 – 00:07:58]:
[00:06:57] They we had a wonderful conversation and great connection. [00:07:02] Next thing I knew, I agreed to visit the campus. [00:07:06] Did I mention I discovered the school was located 50 miles south of Lynchburg, Virginia, where two of our three sons were living at the time I agreed to visit the campus. [00:07:20] Before making any decision, I was assured that I would fall in love with the school if I would just visit. [00:07:30] Well, upon my arrival, I immediately fell in love with the school, the campus, the people, the girls, the culture, and the history. [00:07:43] It was a dream come true. [00:07:45] And before I knew it, I was the new director of enrollment on a beautiful campus, eager and ready to serve. [00:07:55] However, leaving my previous school wasn’t so easy.

The Challenge of Leaving Comfort and Legacy

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:07:59 – 00:08:43]:
[00:07:59] It was a difficult Decision that I did not take lightly. [00:08:03] I had deep roots in the area and a long history with the school dating back to the 70s. [00:08:11] I was proud of what my team and I had accomplished. [00:08:14] It was a fantastic team and we achieved a lot together. [00:08:20] But I remember quite clearly that the last few years had felt off. [00:08:26] I had even had a few conversations with the head of school that I felt something was missing and it might be time for a new season. [00:08:35] Those words became true with my time in Southern Virginia. [00:08:39] It was a season of growth, reflection, and renewal.

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:08:44 – 00:09:22]:
[00:08:44] It was a period of abiding. [00:08:47] I fondly refer to this time as my sabbatical, and I truly cherished every moment I served. [00:08:55] But however enjoyable my time was in Southern Virginia, God was guiding me toward a different season. [00:09:03] I was called to leave a position and career that I loved, a community of people who had become family to me. [00:09:12] Some of them still are. [00:09:14] Some of them still are my prayer warriors and confidants. [00:09:19] It was hard leaving. [00:09:21] It was hard letting go.

Identity, Obedience, and New Beginnings

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:09:23 – 00:10:00]:
[00:09:23] Letting go meant stepping into something less defined, less certain, less affirmed by the world. [00:09:31] And that’s when I discovered just how much my career defined my identity. [00:09:38] I viewed my work as a form of service, helping families navigate the admission process. [00:09:45] Working with families and students was so fulfilling. [00:09:48] And I was more than happy to stay in my secure, safe role. [00:09:54] It served me well. [00:09:56] I was comfortable. [00:09:59] I was in my happy place.

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:10:01 – 00:11:10]:
[00:10:01] Letting go meant experiencing discomfort, accepting uncertainty, and starting over. [00:10:10] To be honest, that did not sound too exciting. [00:10:13] But my desire to obey was stronger than my desire to stay. [00:10:20] The uncertainty was overwhelming. [00:10:24] And the more I tried not to overthink my situation, the more I I overthought everything. [00:10:34] Most significant was, what if no one recognizes his calling? [00:10:39] Will I still say yes? [00:10:42] If no one recognizes me for my accomplishments, position, or authority, will I still say yes? [00:10:52] My decision to leave my position wasn’t just a career choice. [00:10:57] It was an act of obedience. [00:11:00] I had to let go of an identity that was familiar and respected and trust God with a calling that felt quieter but more genuine.

Spiritual Formation and Acceptance in Christ

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:11:12 – 00:12:11]:
[00:11:12] In that surrender, I found a deeper acceptance, not from others, but from God. [00:11:20] I am thankful that after years in private school admissions where acceptance was something to be earned, God called me into spiritual formation work, helping women discover the acceptance and identity they already had in Christ. [00:11:39] Romans 15:7 reminded me, Accept one another just as Christ accepted you. [00:11:47] Let’s think about that for a moment. [00:11:50] Christ accepted us before we had it together, before we proved our worth, before we earned anything. [00:11:58] His acceptance came first. [00:12:01] Transformation followed. [00:12:05] It’s Freedom from performance when we truly receive God’s acceptance, something beautiful happens.

Breaking Free from the Pressure to Perform

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:12:12 – 00:13:28]:
[00:12:12] We begin letting go of performing. [00:12:15] We stop trying to impress God. [00:12:18] We stop exhausting ourselves trying to prove something to others. [00:12:22] And we begin living honestly. [00:12:28] Acceptance allows us to be real with God, to admit when we’re weary, when we’re uncertain, when we’re fearful. [00:12:38] Let’s pause for a moment. [00:12:40] Not the rushed kind we squeeze between tasks, but the kind that invites us to breathe, to pause and to listen. [00:12:53] Ask yourself, where in my life am I still striving to be accepted? [00:13:00] Is it in your work, where you feel the pressure to prove your worth through productivity or performance? [00:13:08] Is it in your family, where old patterns or unspoken expectations still tug at your heart? [00:13:15] Is it in your spiritual life where you quietly wonder if you’re doing enough, growing enough, or being good enough for God? [00:13:26] These questions aren’t meant to shame you.

Laying Down Striving Before God

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:13:29 – 00:14:20]:
[00:13:29] They’re meant to reveal the places where your soul is still carrying weight it was never meant to hold. [00:13:38] Now imagine laying that striving down before God. [00:13:43] Picture yourself placing it gently into his hands. [00:13:47] Not because you failed, not because you’re giving up, but because you were never meant to carry it alone. [00:13:56] Imagine releasing the pressure to earn approval. [00:14:00] Imagine letting go of the fear of disappointing others. [00:14:06] Imagine stepping out of the exhausting cycle of trying to measure up. [00:14:13] And in that still, quiet space, hear the truth that has been yours all along.

The Truth of Being Chosen and Accepted

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:14:23 – 00:15:01]:
[00:14:23] You were already accepted. [00:14:26] You were already chosen. [00:14:30] You are already loved. [00:14:32] Not because of what you’ve done, but because of who he is. [00:14:37] Not because you’ve earned it, but because he delights in giving it. [00:14:43] This is the acceptance that frees, the acceptance that steadies, the acceptance that allows you to finally rest. [00:14:55] Acceptance in Christ is not something we earn. [00:14:58] It’s something we continually return to.

Living in Freedom: Resting in God’s Acceptance

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:15:02 – 00:15:58]:
[00:15:02] And when we rest in that acceptance, we begin living in freedom. [00:15:08] Freedom to grow, freedom to serve. [00:15:12] Freedom to be transformed. [00:15:16] Let us pray. [00:15:18] Heavenly Father, we come before you with open hands and honest hearts, grateful that your acceptance is not something we have to earn. [00:15:29] Thank you, Lord, that before we perform, before we proved anything, before we held everything together, you had already called us chosen, loved and yours. [00:15:42] Father, you know the quiet places in our hearts where we still long to be seen, to be valued, to be enough. [00:15:51] You see the exhaustion that comes from people pleasing over functioning and trying so hard to measure up.

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:15:58 – 00:16:24]:
[00:15:58] Today, Lord, we lay that striving at your feet. [00:16:02] Remind us your acceptance is not conditional. [00:16:06] It is not fragile. [00:16:09] It is not based on our performance. [00:16:11] It is a gift. [00:16:13] Steady, secure and rooted in your unchanging love. [00:16:18] Lord, teach us to rest in that truth. [00:16:21] Teach us to breathe deeply in the freedom you offer.

Encouragement and Prayer for Christian Women

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:16:25 – 00:17:29]:
[00:16:25] For every women listening who feels unnoticed, unworthy or unsure, whisper again the truth of who she is in you, accepted, loved and enough. [00:16:42] Lord, help us to release the pressure to be chosen by the world instead. [00:16:47] Lord, may we receive the acceptance that has already been ours in Christ. [00:16:53] May this truth free us to live honestly, love generously, and walk confidently in the identity you have given us. [00:17:02] Let your acceptance become the place where transformation begins, where striving ends and grace takes root. [00:17:11] In you we rest in you we trust in you we belong to you and your precious name we pray. [00:17:21] Amen. [00:17:23] In the next episode, I’ll share my story how identity and acceptance shaped my journey and led to this podcast.

Conclusion and Invitation to Reflect

Dr. Robin Revis Pyke [00:17:31 – 00:18:02]:
[00:17:31] And thank you so very much for spending this time with me today. [00:17:35] If this episode spoke to your heart, I’d love for you to subscribe and share it with another woman who may need this same encouragement. [00:17:43] Thank you for joining me on this journey of faith. [00:17:45] If this episode encouraged your heart, be sure to subscribe, share it with a friend, and continue reflecting on how God is forming you in this season. [00:17:54] Until next time, keep walking closely with him, abiding in his presence and reflecting his love in your everyday life.

More about Reflecting Life: A Christian Woman’s Journey of Faith

In today’s hustle-driven culture, even faith has become something to perform. Too many Christian women are living disconnected from their true identity in Christ. Constantly striving, doubting, and searching for belonging in places that can’t truly fulfill them. But you were created to be loved, chosen, and formed by grace, not to earn your worth through endless doing.

Welcome to Reflecting Life, A Christian Woman’s Journey of Faith, where Christian women can exhale, reflect, and remember whose they are.

Hosted by Biblical mentor and spiritual formation coach Dr. Robin Revis Pyke, this podcast features real women sharing real stories of faith, struggle, and hope, along with thoughtful conversations that gently point you back to God’s truth. This is companionship on the journey and not cheerleading from the sidelines.

This show will deliver Scripture-grounded teaching, honest storytelling, and gentle formation practices to help you move from striving to rootedness, from performance to presence with God. If you’re spiritually restless and craving depth over surface inspiration, you’re in the right place.

We’ll answer questions like:

  • How do I find my identity in Christ?
  • What is God’s purpose for my life?
  • How do I hear God’s voice clearly?
  • Am I enough in God’s eyes?
  • What is spiritual formation, and why does it matter?
  • Why do I feel spiritually burned out?
  • How do I know if God loves me?
  • How can I find purpose after 40 as a Christian woman?
  • What does it look like to live from grace instead of performance?
  • How do I navigate between seasons of faith?

This podcast is for Christian women in in-between seasons who love God but are wrestling with transition, calling, identity, or a sense of belonging. Whether you’re feeling spiritually restless, frustrated by performance-driven faith, quietly wrestling with obedience and waiting, or simply craving deeper formation, this space was made for you.

If you’re ready to stop striving for acceptance and start resting in the truth that you’re already formed in Christ, this podcast will give you the encouragement, Biblical truth, and sacred space to do just that.

Come as you are. Pause, listen, and reflect honestly on where God is meeting you in this season.

We can spend a great deal of energy trying to beco We can spend a great deal of energy trying to become more patient, more loving, more faithful, more Christlike.

But Jesus gives us a different invitation: 𝗔𝗯𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗲.

Spiritual maturity is not something we manufacture through greater effort. It is formed as we remain rooted in Christ through Scripture, prayer, surrender, and everyday obedience.

The fruit comes from the connection.

So before asking, “What do I need to do better?” ask: “Am I staying close to Jesus?”

Today, set aside 10 quiet minutes with Christ. No striving. No agenda. Simply read John 15:1–5, sit with His Words, and ask, “Lord, what are You forming in me?”

What helps you stay rooted in Christ?
