Jesus Is the Source of My Light: May All I Do Point People to Him

Jesus Is the Source of My Light: May All I Do Point People to Him
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5 NIV
There are moments in life when the shadows seem long, and the nights stretch endlessly. Whether it’s the weight of grief, the ache of unanswered prayers, the sting of betrayal, or the uncertainty of tomorrow, we all walk through seasons where darkness presses in. But even in those moments, one truth remains unshakable: Jesus is the source of our Light.
John 1:5 reminds us that, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” That verse doesn’t say the darkness doesn’t exist. It acknowledges the darkness, but it proclaims a greater reality — the light of Christ is shining, and no shadow is strong enough to extinguish it.
As women of faith, we are not immune to hardship. We may face trials in our homes, in our health, or in our hearts. But when Jesus is the source of our light, we are anchored in hope. His presence gives us clarity in confusion, peace in chaos, and joy in sorrow. The light of Christ doesn’t just illuminate our path; it fills us so that we become reflections of His glory in a world desperate for hope.
When Darkness Surrounds
If you’ve ever felt the heavy weight of discouragement or the silence of unanswered prayer, you are not alone. Even the most faithful women in the Bible faced moments of fear, doubt, and darkness. Think of Mary Magdalene standing outside the tomb, weeping, believing all hope was lost — until the risen Jesus called her by name. In the midst of her sorrow, the Light of the World met her personally.
Are you in a season of weeping or disbelief, like Mary at the tomb? How might Jesus be gently calling your name and inviting you to have faith? To see His light shining even now?
My dear friend, darkness may linger for a time, but it does not have the final word. Seasons of suffering can refine our faith, deepen our dependence on Christ, and prepare us to shine even brighter. I want to encourage you to keep on shining.
Living as Light-Bearers
Jesus said in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” As women rooted in Christ, we are not only called to receive His light but also to reflect it to others. The light we carry isn’t our own — it is His light shining through our words, our love, our service, and our witness.
- When we extend grace in a harsh world, we shine.
- When we choose joy over despair, we shine.
- When we forgive instead of holding on to bitterness, we shine.
- When we speak truth seasoned with love, we shine.
- When we walk through fire but refuse to let it consume our faith, we shine.
And in all of it, may our hearts echo this simple but powerful prayer: “Jesus, may all I do point people to You.”
Jesus is the true source of our light.
A Light That Cannot Be Extinguished
There’s a beauty in knowing that no matter how dark the world becomes, the light of Christ cannot be overcome. It wasn’t overcome in the manger. It wasn’t overcome at the cross. It wasn’t overcome in the grave. And it won’t be overcome in your life.
This doesn’t mean life will always be easy, but it does mean that in every season, we have the Light with us — Emmanuel, God with us. His light goes before us, walks beside us, and holds us in the valleys.
So, sister, when you feel weary, look to the Light. When your prayers feel unanswered, trust the Light. When you feel invisible or forgotten, remember the Light sees you. And when life feels too hard, know that the Light has already overcome the darkness.
What trial or burden are you carrying today that you need to surrender to Jesus, trusting that, even in this, He is your hope and will carry you through? Take a moment to invite Jesus into that space.
Be a Beacon
You may not always feel radiant. Some days are filled with routine, messes, and moments that seem insignificant. But when your life is surrendered to Jesus, even the ordinary becomes sacred. Your gentle words to your children, your quiet prayers for a friend, your faithfulness in your job, your presence with a hurting neighbor — these things shine. They reveal Christ.
Let us be women who live intentionally, who love unconditionally, and who serve sacrificially — not for our glory, but to point others to the One who is our Light.
May our lives be lanterns in the dark, glowing with the hope of Christ. And may every step, word, and act reflect this truth: Jesus is the source of my light. May all I do point people to Him.
