You Are a Child of God
There is nothing quite like the first moments between a new mom and her newborn child meeting one another for the first time.
Your miracle of life is now earthside, and you quickly forget the bouts of morning sickness, backaches, weight gain, and months of anticipation as you look into the eyes of that precious miracle – every moment was worth it. This is your child, the one you have been waiting for, who expanded your heart in ways you didn’t think were possible. And just as you feel the depth of unconditional love that a parent experiences, even before you became a mother, you were and still are somebody’s child.
To Be Someone’s Child
You are in this world, which qualifies you as someone’s child, and with that truth are a few constant variables. Parents are responsible to nurture, teach, and provide the basic needs for the healthy growth and survival of their child. However, because of our fallen world, many children, for various reasons, do not have a parent serving in this role. A role significant to the child’s development, meeting both their emotional and physical needs, and providing unconditional love and acceptance to the child.
How We Can See God As a Parent
However, humanity often fails us, and that includes those we love dearly. So, while we may have a tainted perspective of loving one another, as a child of God, we can stand firm in the confidence that God is our Father, and He loves us with an unconditional, everlasting love.
1 John 3:1 AMP says, “See what an incredible quality of love the Father has shown to us, that we would [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! For this reason, the world does not know us because it did not know Him.”
As our Father, God promises and declares His unconditional love for us, and He proves that through the sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus. Not only did Christ take on the punishment of our sins, but we are now protected from death and have freedom through the cross.
So, regardless of our imperfect relationships here on earth, we can stand firm in the security that God loves us more than we could imagine, and He longs to see us flourish in His Kingdom.
Our Identity As a Child of God
Did you know that as a child of God, we don’t have to strive in order to hold that title? When we accept Christ as our Savior and declare Him Lord, God looks upon us as holy and pleasing to Him.
Because we are created in His image, we were always loved by Him, but now, we are called daughters. His Daughters. There is nothing we can do that will make Him love us more, and we sure couldn’t lose that love even if we tried.
Through His unconditional parenting, He turns our mourning into dancing, exchanges our anxieties for His perfect peace, and cares for us in ways we always need.
We are forgiven through the Son, empowered by the Spirit, and are now heirs of the Father’s kingdom. Because before we were someone else’s child, we were, are, and always will be God’s child.
You are a beautiful daughter of God!
