A Call to Prayer for Our Nation and Our Nation’s Leaders

Matthew 5:13-16 AMP

Disciples and the World

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its taste (purpose), how can it be made salty? It is no longer good for anything, but to be thrown out and walked on by people [when the walkways are wet and slippery].

You are the light of [Christ to] the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

YOU are the light of the world. Your light reflects Jesus and honors Him through your words and actions. This week, I encourage you to allow His light to shine to those around you. Be generous with your words, your deeds, and your prayers, paying tribute to God.

A Call for Prayer

On the eve of our 59th Presidential Inauguration, I cannot think of a more significant time to fervently pray for our nation and the leaders of our nation. I am delighted the inauguration ceremony has included a prayer for our president and nation since 1937. I pray our nation’s leaders will serve our country, seeking God’s will for their decisions and plans.

God’s Word reminds us that when we pray, we are comforted and reassured. God’s Word assures us that when we call upon Him through prayer, petition, intercession, and thanksgiving, He will hear our prayers, and according to His will, give us hope for our future.

This week, I hope you’ll join me in praying for our nation and our nation’s leaders. May our prayers bring peace and goodwill to our country, and may God continue to bless our beautiful nation.

Prayer for Our Country

Pray our nation’s leaders will be given wisdom and knowledge.

“Give me wisdom and knowledge, so that I may go out and come in [performing my duties] before this people, for [otherwise] who can rule and administer justice to this great people of Yours?” 2 Chronicles 1:10 AMP

Pray our nation’s leaders will humble themselves.

“and My people, who are called by My Name, humble themselves, and pray and seek (crave, require as a necessity) My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear [them] from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 AMP

Pray for a blessed nation favored by God.

“Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom He has chosen as His own inheritance.” Psalm 33:12 AMP

Pray for sound judgment and godly vision for our nation and our nation’s leaders.

“Discretion will watch over you, understanding and discernment will guard you,” Proverbs 2:11 AMP

Pray our nation’s leaders will seek wisdom and guidance from God.

“Where there is no [wise, intelligent] guidance, the people fall [and go off course like a ship without a helm], But in the abundance of [wise and godly] counselors there is victory.” Proverbs 11:14 AMP

Pray for the spiritual integrity and morals of our nation and our nation’s leaders.

“Righteousness [moral and spiritual integrity and virtuous character] exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.” Proverbs 14:34 AMP

Pray for God’s glory to light the way for our nation and our nation’s leaders.

“For in fact, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness will cover the peoples; But the Lord will rise upon you [Jerusalem] and His glory and brilliance will be seen on you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” Isaiah 60:2-3 AMP

Pray for hope for our nation’s future.

“’For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call on Me and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear [your voice] and I will listen to you. Then [with a deep longing] you will seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will] find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.’” Jeremiah 29:11-13 AMP

Pray for unity and respect for our nation and nation’s leaders.

“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God [granted by His permission and sanction], and those which exist have been put in place by God. Therefore, whoever resists [governmental] authority resists the ordinance of God. And those who have resisted it will bring judgment (civil penalty) on themselves.” Romans 13:1-2 AMP

Pray for peace and righteousness for our nation.

“First of all, then, I urge that petitions (specific requests), prayers, intercessions (prayers for others) and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all people, for kings and all who are in [positions of] high authority, so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2 AMP

May your light shine among the world.

In God we trust.

You think you've done enough, accomplished the goal for which you started Lent. It's just tough and you're ready to be done. I encourage you, don't give in! ⁣

Remember what this is all about. Keep it in perspective: 40 days is really not all that much in comparison to eternity. Think of all Jesus gave up for you to have life, and let that drive you to continue to love Him through your sacrifice. You CAN do it, through the power of the Spirit within you. Be encouraged!⁣

It is the time in which we bring all of our cares from the past week and lay them before the Savior. It is the Sabbath day in which the Lord prepares us for the week ahead. So, Lent should play into that.⁣

As you go to church today, ask God to speak to you. Let the extra time you may have because of what you've given up open your heart and mind to hearing your Heavenly Father. Because Lent is typically practiced by Catholics, Because Lent is typically practiced by Catholics, and there is no direct command in Scripture for it, we'll probably get a lot of questions from other believers when we partake in it. They might ask us why we're doing it, or explain to us all of the reasons we shouldn't. ⁣
⁣
In response to these questions, we have to make it clear that we're not taking part in Lent for legalistic reasons. We don't feel like we have to--we want to. Tell these inquirers where you specifically want to grow during the Lent season, and how what you gave up got in the way of that growth. Speak the truth in love and always be honest. ⁣

⁣
So, how can we make the most of Lent? The best way is to keep the main thing, the main thing. Don't get so caught up in what you can't have that you forget all that you do have. ⁣
⁣
Use your time with the Lord to its fullest potential. Get into His Word, pray more genuinely than you ever have before, and rediscover the joy of knowing your Heavenly Father. Really let Him do a work in you over these forty days.⁣

“Instead of following the worldly ways of doing “Instead of following the worldly ways of doing everything in our power to get what we want, achieve success, and gain the approval of man, we are called to give up our lives. We are called to follow Jesus in laying our lives down for the sake of others. We are called to disregard everything this world offers in pursuit of the eternal glory of heaven. This is what Jesus did, and He commands us to follow Him—wherever He goes.”⁣
