Moving Forward When Overcome with Self-doubt
We’ve all been there. Stuck. Unsure. Hesitant.
Overcome with so much self-doubt that we lose our ability to move forward.
Whether it’s our past that immobilizes us or our fear of failure and rejection, we get stuck. Our thoughts and feelings take over, and we are no longer the go-getting goal crusher reaching for the stars.
Our action has come to a screeching halt as unhealthy thoughts take over, and our feelings misguide us. We begin to desperately seek counsel from whomever and whoever is available. Our confidence is nowhere to be found, and we are at the mercy of our mindset.
It’s OK. Scenarios such as this happen, and it usually hits us when we are making great strides as we achieve and crush our goals. You see, the enemy does everything in its power to derail us! And one of the first means of attack is to overtake our mind!
I’ll share a favorite passage from the book The Lies We Believe by Dr. Chris Thurman. If you haven’t read the book, I highly recommend you add to your reading list!
“Feeling something to be true doesn’t make it true! We cannot afford to let our feelings run the show! …The truth is our best guide.”
What is the truth?
Our truth begins with knowing who we are and what we stand for.
- You are a daughter of the King
- You are a beloved daughter of infinite worth
- You were created in His image, the image of God
As a daughter of the King, we cannot allow our thoughts to take us hostage. We live in a world where we are surrounded by unhealthy messages – if it feels good, it must be good. But this is so far from the truth.
“We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One.”
When we are overcome with self-doubt, we must capture our thoughts and fortify our minds with the Word of God.
Last week, I encouraged you to download and delete any thoughts not serving you. Did you take time to examine your thoughts and reflect on whether the thoughts in your mind aligned with God’s Word?
This week I encourage you to do the work – reflect on your thoughts and delete any thought not serving you. If you become immobilized with self-doubt and fear, I’ve listed five of my favorite verses to help you break through the lies and move forward toward victory. The victory is yours for the taking – you just need to ask!
“Have I not told you? Be strong and have strength of heart! Do not be afraid or lose faith. For the Lord your God is with you anywhere you go.”
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not trust in your own understanding.”
“We know that God makes all things work together for the good of those who love Him and are chosen to be a part of His plan.”
“Christian brothers, keep your minds thinking about whatever is true, whatever is respected, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever can be loved, and whatever is well thought of. If there is anything good and worth giving thanks for, think about these things.”
“My children, you are a part of God’s family. You have stood against these false preachers and had power over them. You had power over them because the One Who lives in you is stronger than the one who is in the world.”
P.S. You have the strength to overcome and take the victory! Take time out to reflect, rethink, repeat. You can and you will! And, I’m a phone call away if you need a guide to walk with you on this journey. You are not alone!
