3 Keys to Increasing Your Confidence
The source of our confidence comes from looking up to look within because when we look up to God, we acknowledge He is our source of success.
As we are reminded to not worry about the future but to be present for today, we need to refresh our thoughts and be confident in His word. I’m not sure where you are in your journey, but I do know God’s Word nourishes our minds and gives us the strength we need to continue on in our journey.
We may be just starting out, or we may be experiencing “the wilderness” season as we wait for His plans to unfold, whatever our circumstances are at this very moment, know and trust God is committed to honoring His word.
And, as you wait and wonder, implement these 3 keys to increasing your confidence so you can overcome any difficulties you may be experiencing. You will gain strength and increase your confidence to meet anything that comes your way!
You can and You will!
Key #1 Remember Your True Identity
In a world that revolves so heavily around social media, our identity can get quickly wrapped up in the number of likes and comments of our most recent posts. More and more, there are mental health issues relating to social media as people are determining their worth from the various platforms.
Yet, as followers of Jesus, we can build our confidence by remembering the foundation of our identity – a child of God. Now, don’t take that lightly. A child of God is not only adopted into the Creator’s family but also an heir to the Kingdom (Galatians 4:5-6). Therefore, we can rest assured and have greater confidence in ourselves because our identity is built on a solid foundation.
As you navigate through life, don’t be frustrated when your pitch gets denied or you were overlooked for the promotion. Instead, remember who you are is not wrapped up in the world. YOU are a child of God who is worthy and loved by The Creator who brought you into the world.
Key #2 Remember the Lord is Always Fighting for You
Along with being a child of God, don’t forget that God is always fighting for you. There is an unseen spiritual realm in which forces are at play, and there is a physical realm in which there are all different types of people. Whether you face spiritual battles or physical encounters, God is for you. He is fighting for you.
At times our confidence can blunder due to a negative situation that we allowed to set us back or place us in a tailspin. Do not allow circumstances to control your thoughts and feelings! Remember the Lord, who calls us worthy children, is fighting on our behalf. There’s no need to compete – to be the toughest or smartest in the room. Let go of any thoughts that are not serving you and trust in God – His good and pleasing will be done.
If your confidence is eroding or your situation is overwhelming, look up, and pray in faith. Prayer is calling out to the power of God to help us in our circumstances. It is knowing and trusting God will provide. To stand tall in our faith, we must begin by kneeling in prayer. And, as you stand tall in your faith, you'll start to realize the source of your confidence and strength lies in His power. Click To Tweet
Key #3 Written and Verbal Affirmations
If you’re looking to gain confidence and need a tactical strategy, write down affirmations for yourself. There’s nothing more powerful than reflecting on God’s Word! His promises offer comfort, strength, reassurance, and encouragement when life becomes too difficult or challenging. And, life will be unjust at times, so we need to be prepared for the battle by allowing God to work through us.
At the end of the post, I’ve listed a few affirmations for you. Take a moment to read through the statements and choose a few to reflect upon when your confidence begins to wear away. There’s no minimum or maximum amount you can choose, so select as many declarations as you wish that speaks to you. I’d also encourage you to create your own list of affirmations – a list of positive statements to increase your confidence.
Whether you’re an auditory, tactile, or visual learner, this practice is an excellent approach to increasing your self-assurance.
Once you’ve written down your affirmations, do two things with them. First, place them where you can see them often – your office, your bathroom mirror, your bedside table, or anywhere just make sure they are in full view. I have a scripture card placed on the console of my car and a post-it taped to my desk! Then, on a daily basis, read your affirmations out loud. Speak favor over yourself and know that You are a child of God and believe – You must believe!
Although you may be hesitant to give it a try, or you may feel odd as you begin to speak your declarations, I promise this consistent habit will be life changing! It’s you being your authentic self, speaking words of favor as you go through your day.
How refreshing is this practice to your thoughts? I hope you had a chance to read last week’s post on How to Refresh and Renew Your Thoughts. Our thoughts drive our actions so it’s vital to our mental health to renew and refresh our thoughts daily.
